Accompanying note: "Eight foot marble monument at Monticello depicts the first flag raising at Iwo Jima. Relatives and friends of platoon Sgt. Ernest 'Boots' Thomas a native of Tampa who grew up in Monticello, raised funds to construct the monument, which was unveiled Feb. 22, 1981. Thomas is in the foreground."
