Born on October 24, 1792 in Pittsfield, Virginia he married Mary Letitia Kirkman in General Andrew Jackson's home, the Hermitage in 1824. He died on September 15, 1862 at his Tallahassee home "The Grove". 3rd and 5th Governor. Served: 1836-1939, 1841-1844.
