Petition To The Legislature Of Florida
The Anti-Saloon League stands for the rapid and complete precinct, town, city, State and National Prohibition of the Liquor Traffic.
We use every know, accessible, workable method to accomplish this end, and the Saloons have already been closed in forty (40) counties in Florida.
Ten (10) counties are yet harboring Saloons, the spawning place of vice, poverty, licentiousness and crime, - therefore, true to our declaration above, while continuing the battle in the wet precincts and counties, we invoke the ballot of the electorate of the State to "Cut out this Cancer of Society" at the fall election of 1916, for which election we hereby petition the 1915 Legislature, requesting that honorable body to pass the [illegible, torn] Measure for the following.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT.
That Article XIX of the Constitution of the State of Florida be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows:
Article XIX. Sec.1. The manufacture, sale, barter or exchange of all alcoholic or intoxicating liquors and beverages, whether spirituous, vinous or malt, are hereby forever prohibited in the State of Florida, except alcohol for medical, scientific or mechanical purposes, and wine for sacramental purposes; the sale of which alcohol and wine for the purpose aforesaid, shall be regulated by law.
