I expect to see Mr. Long very shortly and will discuss Mr. Ray with him. I appreciate the fact that the persons you refer to us are capable ones and I am sure you will agree with me that the need for capable people seems to be a universal one. I appreciate your attitude regarding the combination of our two Archives Projects. There is hardly room for two in one state and the combination assures us of fine professional supervision from Washington. As a matter of fact the combination strenghtens our program rather than weakens it. Changes like this are often a bit difficult but it seems to be the way of life where there is to be a change there is likely to be friction. There are always personnel problems to be considered but I believe that this combination will be made with a minimum amount of concern for all of us. I can see this project making a [magnificent] contribution to Florida. I appreciate your words regarding my personal attitude. Nothing in my life takes priority over the obligations this program demands of me. I have constantly tried in planning our projects to think in terms of our usefulness to the established agencies that we already have in our state. I hope that we both live to sing at the dedication of the State Library that you have worked and labored for and which I hope some of my projects will have contributed something valuable to it.
