General Note
The prime meridian, located southeast of the original state capitol in Cascades Park, marks the intersection of the guide meridian and the basis parallel, which was to be the exact point of beginning for land surveys in Florida. The meridian was originally marked in 1824 by Robert Butler; the marker pictured here was erected in 1925. Cascades Park was listed on the National Register for Historic Places in 1971, partly for the prime meridian.
