About Florida Memory Radio
Florida Memory Radio is presented by the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services, State Archives of Florida. It is part of the Florida Memory Program, whose mission is to provide free online access to a growing number of archival resources from the collections of the State Library and Archives.
Florida Memory Radio provides worldwide, around-the-clock access to the Florida Folklife Collection recordings housed in the State Archives of Florida. Programming includes bluegrass & old-time, blues, folk, gospel, Latin and world music. Through the work of folklorists and archivists, as well as the legacy of creation passed on to future generations by the artists themselves, this music is preserved and enjoyed.
Florida Folklife Collection
This collection consists of more than 90 individual series that document performances and interviews with the folk musicians, artisans, storytellers, and folklife interpreters preserving the cultural legacy of Florida’s peoples and their traditions. In addition to the research files of the Florida Folklife Program, the collection also includes recordings and images from the annual Florida Folk Festival, the nation’s longest continuously running folk festival.
Florida Folklife Program
The Florida Folklife Program documents and presents the folklife, folklore and folk arts of the state. Its full-time staff of professional folklorists coordinate a wide range of activities and projects designed to increase awareness of Florida’s traditional culture.
The Florida Folk Festival
The Florida Folk Festival is an annual event to highlight and celebrate Florida's many folk cultures and traditions. Held every year since 1953 at what is now the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center in White Springs, the festival treats visitors to music, dances, stories, crafts and food representing the broad array of cultural influences found in Florida.
