Governor Dave Sholtz
State House
Tallahassee, Florida
My dear Governor Sholtz:
I know you realize how deeply pained the Negroes of Florida are and the Negroes of the country over the last horrible lynching in our fair state.
I am writing to assure you of our gratitude for the effort you have put forth and for all that you may do to step this horrible practice in our state. It does place an unexplainable blot upon the record of Florida.
It is my hope that you may grow even more courageous in trying to extend justice to all.
Thanking you for all that you are doing and praying God's blessings upon you, I am
Sincerely yours,
Mary McLeod Bethune [Signed]
