Description

Letter from private citizen James A. Wright to Francis Preston Whitehair calling his attention to the attitudes of several DeLand city council members toward the New York Giants building seasonal housing for both black and white members of their team and staff. Wright expresses his concern that the council members are willing to allow the project to move forward despite its violation of city ordinances prohibiting the mixing of the races in public spaces. Wright attaches several documents to the communication, including a copy of a newspaper article describing how another Giants farm club had handled the issue of segregation, a copy of a statement Wright made to the city commission regarding the Giants' proposed project in DeLand, a copy of the deed for the land where the Giants' project would be located, and the cover page where a city zoning ordinance was to be attached.
